How to convert a PDF to CSV
CSV (comma-separated values) is the universal format for tabular data. Converting a PDF to CSV lets you sort, filter and analyse data that is otherwise locked inside a document — for example transactions in a bank statement, line items in an invoice, or figures in an annual report.
Our converter reads the exact position of every word on the page. Words that sit on the same horizontal line become a row, and large horizontal gaps start a new cell. It then lines up those cells into consistent columns across the whole page, so amounts stay under “Amount” and dates stay under “Date”.
Popular uses
- Bank and credit-card statements → import into accounting software like Tally, QuickBooks, Zoho Books or Xero.
- Invoices and purchase orders → reconcile line items in a spreadsheet.
- Price lists and catalogues → upload products to an e-commerce store.
- Research papers and government reports → analyse statistical tables in Python, R or Excel.
CSV vs Excel — which should you choose?
Choose CSV when you need to import data into another system (CRM, database, accounting tool) or process it with code. If you want formatting, multiple sheets or one sheet per PDF page, use our PDF to Excel converter instead.
Getting the cleanest results
- Use text-based PDFs (downloaded from your bank or exported from software). Scanned image PDFs need OCR first.
- Limit the page range to the pages with the table to avoid headers, footers and disclaimers.
- If Excel shows everything in one column in your region, choose the semicolon delimiter.
Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF to CSV converter free?
Yes — free, unlimited and with no sign-up.
Can I convert bank statements from PDF to CSV?
Yes. Most bank statements downloaded as PDF contain selectable text, which this tool extracts into aligned columns such as date, description, debit, credit and balance.
Why does my CSV show strange characters in Excel?
Our CSV files are saved as UTF-8 with a BOM, which Excel recognises. If you still see issues, use Data › From Text/CSV in Excel and choose UTF-8.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
No. Scanned PDFs are images without a text layer. Run them through OCR software first, then convert.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded to any server.
