How to play Tic Tac Toe
Tic Tac Toe is played on a 3×3 grid. One player is X and the other is O. Players take turns placing their mark in an empty square. The first player to get three of their marks in a row — across, down or diagonally — wins. If all nine squares are filled with no winner, the game is a draw.
Winning strategy and tips
- Start in a corner. As X, a corner opening gives your opponent the most chances to make a mistake.
- Take the centre if it’s free. The centre square is part of four possible winning lines.
- Always block. If your opponent has two in a row, block the third square immediately.
- Create a fork. Set up two winning threats at once — your opponent can only block one.
- Against the unbeatable AI, perfect play from both sides always ends in a draw.
Why is Tic Tac Toe good for kids?
Tic Tac Toe teaches turn-taking, pattern recognition, planning ahead and good sportsmanship. Start younger players on Easy, then move up to Medium as they learn to block and fork.
